MeshCom
Text messages and position data over a radio network of LoRa nodes – without mobile networks or internet.
What is MeshCom?
MeshCom is an amateur radio network for short text messages and position reports. It uses low-cost, low-power LoRa radio modules; every node relays the messages it receives, forming a mesh network. Where a gateway has internet access, messages are also distributed worldwide over the MeshCom network.
MeshCom is developed by the Austrian ICSSW ↗, which also provides firmware, a list of supported hardware and instructions.
Technical data (Europe)
- Frequency: 433.175 MHz (70 cm band)
- Modulation: LoRa, 250 kHz bandwidth, spreading factor 11, coding rate 4/6
- Operation requires an amateur radio licence and your own call sign
MeshCom and emergency communications
Because the nodes need little power and do not depend on public networks, MeshCom is a useful addition to emergency communications: short status reports still get through when telephone and mobile networks are down.
In preparation: We are planning MeshCom nodes in the Triesting valley. Details to follow. Questions or want to help build? Write to us.
